Howard declares ‘Ich bin ein Chairman’
At a remarkably well-attended December meeting our speaker was Mr Matthew Howard, with a talk entitled Berlin: It'll Take Your Breath Away. It was the latest in his series of Lady Malvern Memorial Lectures, named after a Wodehouse character who wrote a guidebook to India based on a few weeks' acquaintance with the place. This time round, our narrator doesn't even technically make it to Germany at all: instead we're treated to a bizarre flight of fantasy featuring an imaginary guidebook allegedly written by one of our number, the Earl of Essex, chiefly famous for the large number of talks he has himself given, and the frequency with which these talks touch upon the subject of Nazis.
Anyway, the live stream of this talk actually cut out halfway through, so I have now uploaded a higher quality version of the whole talk. However, Mr Howard has asked me not to leave the video online for posterity—you may get a sense of why when you watch it—so I plan to take it down again in a week's time, on Saturday 23rd December. So be aware that if you'd like to watch it you have just seven days from now to do so.
I've also left in a brief announcement at the beginning by Luigi Sbaffi, of our Italian chapter, about a jaunt he is planning for next summer, in which a "task force" of Sheridanites will visit Italy and meet some local dandies.
