Named after the New Orleans classic song “Iko Iko”, the Ikos are the band of UK piano supremo Dom Pipkin. Pipkin has performed all over the world, as a solo piano player and with artists as diverse as David Byrne, Paloma Faith, and Morcheeba. Jamie Cullum says “I can’t hold a candle to this guy”, and godfather of modern New Orleans fun drumming Zigaboo Modeliste of the Meters says “Dom brings the whole New Orleans thing to the UK. So good!”
Pipkin is a regular performer in New Orleans with appearances including the prestigious “Piano Night” at the world-famous Jazz and Heritage Festival, alongside such luminaries as the late Allen Toussaint, Jon Cleary and Ellis Marsalis. The Ikos had a two year residency at Ronnie Scott’s club in London, and have headlined festivals up and down the land. Their sets mine the music of Dr John, Lee Dorsey, Professor Longhair, the Meters and the whole catalogue of classic Nola R’n’B and funk, mixing the classics with Pipkin’s own compelling songwriting.
