The Earl of Essex returns with Henry 'Chips' Channon Diaries (1938-43), his third talk on the subject. "In the second volume of the unexpurgated diaries of Sir Henry 'Chips' Channon, our diarist has a front row seat as Britain seeks to avoid war with Germany. Channon does his best to support his hero, Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain, in his negotiations with Hitler, but when these ultimately fail and Churchill replaces Chamberlain as Prime Minister, Channon's political career is drawing to a close. While he still makes acute political observations about the state of the War, his focus turns to his personal life, the breakdown of his marriage and a new long-term relationship with Peter Coats."
As usual we will be attempting to livestream the talk (very much at the mercy of the pub’s wifi connection). The link to watch that is https://youtu.be/bZ-suNbAtxw.
