Member Ewan Carmichael will deliver a broadside on Like a Brazen Wall: The Battle of Minden, a story of British Pluck?
“The Battle of Minden was fought, and won, in 1759, Britain's Annus Mirabilis,” Mr Carmichael writes. “It is rightly celebrated by the infantry regiments involved, but is that the whole story? This talk will explore the wide picture, showing why the British were straddling the Atlantic, with involvement in both Europe and in North America. It will also show that the French were not simply a convenient target array for superb British musketry, but that they were also capable of pulling off dashing ‘commando’ raids while dressed in impractical, but highly fashionable, clothing!”
As usual we will be attempting to live-stream the talk (subject to the whims of the venue’s wifi): the link to watch is https://youtube.com/live/4SBGErqf350.
