Member Sarah Bowerman will give a talk on The Iconography of a Queen Consort: the Image of Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz—pertinent, she points out, since we now have a Queen Consort once more. “Queen Charlotte was our longest serving Queen Consort and during her 57-year tenure she was much painted and drawn, as ‘humble’ German princess (with slave), bride, queen, mother (to 15 children), sister, patron of the arts, fashion victim and gold-gobbling, snuff-stained, miser—living as she did during the Golden Age of British portraiture and printed satire.”
As usual we will be attempting to live-stream the talk (subject to the whims of the venue’s wifi): the link to watch is https://youtube.com/live/bt3fI1hTFFU
