NSC Club Night

  • The Wheatsheaf 25 Rathbone Place London, England, W1T 1JB United Kingdom (map)

Our guest speaker will be Adam Taylor, a keen canoeist who has explored pristine lakes all over the world, but is most drawn to the muddy marshes of the Medway estuary—a region made famous in Dickens’s Great Expectations. His talk will not only describe the flora and fauna of the area, but will draw in historical records and plans to bring to life the people who lived on these islands, explain how the twin Victorian forts of Hoo and Darnet were built, and tell the stories of the pub which stood on an island in the middle of the estuary, the WWI German submarine that is still there, and the infamous Deadmans island.

As usual we will be attempting to live-stream the proceedings, very much at the mercy of the pub’s wifi. The link to watch that is https://youtube.com/live/2YPQuUIgCWM.
