The Candlelight Club’s Valentine Ball

  • A secret location Somewhere is south London, England United Kingdom (map)

Admission: £30 in advance
Dress: 1920s elegance

The Candlelight Club is an award-winning clandestine pop-up 1920s speakeasy, in a secret London venue lit by candles. Each event offers live period jazz bands and vintage vinylism for your dancing pleasure, plus a dining options, cocktails bars and more.

What more romantic way is there to celebrate St Valentine’s Day than an evening of hot jazz, rug-cutting, cocktail-sipping and general 1920s glamour? (Well, ask the members of Chicago’s North Side Gang who went down in a hail of bullets from Al Capone’s men in the famous St Valentine’s Day Massacre in 1929 and you might get a different answer, but we’ll gloss over that…)

At our party there will be live jazz from Elise Roth and her High Standards to get your feet moving on the dance floor, and when the band aren’t playing DJs the Bee’s Knees will be spinning vintage vinyl into the night. Your host will be Champagne Charlie and there will be racy burlesque from Miss Didi Derriere.

Want to know if he/she is The One? Our fortune teller Lucius will be on hand to advise. There will also be a pop-up vintage jewellery store from Michelle Krausz (in case you need a ring in a hurry).

Our venue will be a south London ballroom. You can come just for drinks and dancing but you can also reserve a table with Champagne, or book the three-course dinner. There’s even an inclusive-drinks option. Ticket-holders receive an email two days before revealing the secret location (which is close to a tube station). So pull on your flapper dress and get ready to Charleston…

"The closest you'll find to an authentic Jazz Age experience in central London. Its unique ambience, fuelled by hundreds of candles, is truly a scene to behold." —Time Out
