The Town That Never Was

  • Blists Hill Victorian Town Legges Way Telford, England, TF7 5UD United Kingdom (map)

If your tastes extend to Steampunk, the group Welcome to the Asylum are running what sounds like a Western Steampunk weekend. This is what they say:

On Saturday we will be electing the Town Mayor, we will be holding an illicit market, there will be 'wizard stuff' on The Green, there will be parasol duelling and we even have a line dance teacher coming along to teach us some moves!

On Sunday we will be electing the first Town Sheriff that The Town That Never Was has ever had. Are you up for the role? Have you got what it takes to clean up the town?

Sunday will also see performances by Belly Fusion Dance Collective, an illustrated talk on the history of the Salvation Army by the (entirely reliable) Steampunk Sallys and in the afternoon we will have a Brass Band concert down in the lower town.

Both days will be filled with a host of other activities too, including performances by TADLOP (the Telford and District Light Operatic Players who wooed us with their performances last year), there will be teapot racing, the H.G. Wells award, High Noon Shoot-Outs both days, sea shanties, hat making workshops, parades, lots of steampunk traders (some new to TTTNW) and both the Steampunk Sallys and the National Institute of Monster and Paranormal Hunters will be doing what they do best (answers on a postcard please). All of this in the most extraordinarily photogenic environment of the Victorian town.

Don't forget to bring your passports to get them stamped with our new event stamp and also by the traders, or if you can't find it down the back of the sofa you can buy another for the pricely sum of £1.

There will also be a number of large display features and of course we will be decorating the town with a variety of blue plaques.

All of the above information and more is now up on the MoS website at https://www.ministryofsteampunk.com/the-town-that-never...

Tickets will be available from Blist Hill Victorian Town on the day and we look forward to seeing you there.
