Back in the Jug Agane

Freedom is not quite in our grasp just yet, as the lifting of social restrictions has been pushed back from 21st June to 19th July. Here's how it affects the NSC.

JULY CLUB NIGHT
Our July monthly meeting was supposed to see our triumphant return to the Wheatsheaf. I've spoken to the landlord David and he has confirmed that this won't be able to go ahead, as the existing Step 3 rules would prevent a gathering of more than six of us, and even if we wanted to go ahead it wouldn't really warrant opening the upstairs room. Instead our meeting will once again be virtual with an online talk on Shakespeare’s theatrical world delivered by Callum Coates using YouTube, Facebook or Zoom—details to come.

AUGUST CLUB NIGHT
Under the current roadmap the August Club Night should go ahead as normal, falling as it does two and a half weeks after the new date for the lifting of lockdown. It will feature the Earl of Essex's long-awaited talk on "Chips" Channon. If the gods of wifi are willing we will also be attempting to webcast the talk live from the Wheatsheaf for the benefit of those who can't be there in person.

SUMMER PARTY
Our summer party, 'Brideshead Revisited Revisited', on Saturday 7th August at the Tea House Theatre, should be able to take place as planned.

QUIZ NIGHTS
Through most of lockdown we've been running weekly Club Pub Quiz Nights on Wednesdays. The original plan was to continue until lockdown was lifted, then reduce the frequency to once a month. Depending on the level of interest we could carry on with the weekly events until the beginning of August.

The latest quiz takes place this evening, from 8pm BST, with Clayton and Ali Hartley as your genial hosts. To take part use the Zoom link https://us02web.zoom.us/j/87210860295?pwd=dGhBcHJ5QVBVU1lQaCs4cU9lWmw2UT09
 (meeting ID: 825 4370 9764, passcode: 938442). There is a Facebook event at https://www.facebook.com/events/331598218342970
