Chap celebrates 25 years

The Chap magazine marked 25 years of existence on 12th October with a celebratory ball. At a ballroom in south London leading lights of Chappism and the magazine's readership came together in full fig, to be entertained by Mr B. the Gentleman Rhymer (de rigueur at such events) as well as a jazz combo put together by Michael McQuaid. The last Chap party I can recall was a 20th anniversary bash that took place in a side room of a Blitz Party event, when Gustav declined to address the room, so I was pleased to see that on this occasion there was some proper speechifying, as well as the bestowing of prizes to the best-dressed, best hairdo, best facial hair, etc.

I wasn't taking photos on the night myself, but Martin Soulstealer was there in an official capacity. You can see some of his photos in this Facebook album: https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=1044289934162956&set=pcb.1044292534162696.

Editor Gustav Temple is not a natural event organiser and spent the run-up stressing about how much there was to think about and do—I know because I was running the sound and lighting on the night—so despite the evening's undoubted success (and the number of people who asked him to make it an annual thing), don't expect another one any time soon…
