Essex offers Christmas selection

Essex recounts The Twelve Days of Christmas

Our speaker at the last meeting of 2022 was the Earl of Essex, with a smorgasbord of Christmas readings from literature and the correspondence of litterati, culminating with John Julius Norwich's wry take on The Twelve Days of Christmas, in the form of letters from a woman to her beau "thanking" him for each gift. (You can read it online here).

We were also blessed with a visit from Luigi and Barbara, two Italian members who had been enthusiastic participants in Club activities for some years, while Luigi was posted to security at the Italian embassy. When the posting came to an end, they reluctantly had to head back to Ancona, but evidently they are still planning to make trips back to the UK. Huzzah!
